A collection of events

In British India in 1924 District Public Relations Office was created under Public Health Division to make people aware about health and sanitation. The activities of this department started in Kolkata's Writers Building under the name of Publicity Department under the then Information Department. In 1947, Directorate of Public Relations was formed under Ministry of Information and Radio with Field Publicity and News and Film Branch. In 1968, its scope was increased to create a District Public Relations Officer in each district and a Subdivisional Public Relations Officer in each sub-division. Directorate of Mass Communication was formed in 1972 by bringing together the Bangladesh Parishad, BNR and Women's Branch with the aim of encouraging and involving the people in the development activities by making the people aware at the grass root level of post-independence Bangladesh. The activities of Directorate of Mass Communication are implemented in all regions of the country through 64 District Information Offices and 04 Upazila Information Offices.




Since its inception, the District and Upazila Information Offices have been holding various meetings, seminars, discussion meetings, music concerts and movie screenings to engage the people with the policies and development programs adopted by the government. Bioscope was once known as a popular mass media in the villages. It was this department that organized bioscopes at that time and provided information about birth control and sanitation to the people. At present, this program has been joined with the inspection and supervision of the Union Information and Service Center, plays, workshops, cultural events, press meetings, children's fairs, yard meetings, road campaigns, distribution of booklets, etc. Eminent persons from the world of literature, journalism and music such as Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia, poet Jasim Uddin, artist Abbas Uddin, Abdul Alim, Sohrab Hossain, Abdul Latif, Bedar Uddin etc. have worked in this department at various times.
